Problem Sleeping?

Sleep recharges your body and soul, and it is necessary for the body to function properly.
According to Chinese Medicine, the body’s inherited qi recharges as you sleep. Sleep at least eight hours each
night and let go of the television if it gets in the way of your sleep goals.  Improve your life through thought and
action, and better health will be your reward.  Learn to sleep the natural way so you don't need to use prescription
drugs such as Ambien and Lunesta.

Chinese Medicine emphasizes four essential building blocks of good health. These are: Quality Food, Adequate
Sleep, Moderate Sexual Activity and Moderate Exercise.

The body, according to Chinese Medicine is dependent on two particular forms of Qi: inherited qi and acquired qi.
Inherited qi is the genetic material you received from your parents. One expression of this qi is as the sexual
essence of your body, known as jing. This type of qi is recharged every night during sleep. Acquired qi is the qi the
body takes in through the food we eat and the oxygen we breathe. You can also think of these two types of qi as the
pre-natal and post-natal qi. These biological qi mechanisms are fueled by the nutrition, oxygen and movements of
the body—from the tiniest cell to the larger limbs of the body.

TIPS for going to SLEEP

Acupressure:
Put one drop of White Flower Oil on your index finger.  Massage this oil into your temples, making
small circular movements at the outer edge of the eyebrow for 30 seconds. (Careful! Do not to get to close to the
eyes.)

Evening Bath: Take a bath approximately fifteen to twenty minutes before going to bed. This encourages the
smooth flow of qi and blood within the body. (Warning! Do not spend too long in the bath or have the water
temperature too high, because that will cause the overheating of the body.)

Food: Limit your intake of food and drink after 6 o'clock pm. According to Chinese Medicine, food adds heat and
energy to your body, making it harder for your body to settle down.

Foot Bath: Fill two large bowls, one with warm water, and the other with cool water. Make sure that the water level
reaches above your ankles. Place both of your feet in the warm bath for 3 minutes and then immerse them in cool
water for 30 seconds. Repeat this procedure four times. Dry your feet and put on warm socks before going to sleep.
According Chinese medicine, this type of foot bath stabilizes the flow of qi and encourages excess heat to move
downwards.

Dark Room or Eye Pillows:  Make some eye pillows or put up blinds that completely cover the windows to
make your bedroom seem pitch black. The darkness causes the release of the hormone melatonin, which facilitates
sleep.

Stimulants: Starting at least three hours before bed time, stay away from all stimulants, such as coffee, smoking
and soda.
