GENERAL QUESTIONS

What should you expect during your first visit?
During your first visit, I usually carry out an in-depth interview and exam that includes asking numerous questions about
your primary complaint, as well as a complete health history, and relevant aspects of your health.  That helps to build up
a complete picture and to put your illness into a holistic context.  After the first visit, a customized treatment will be
formulated.
During your treatment, you will lie either face up or face down in a comfortable position on a massage table, listening to
relaxing music and receiving therapy.

How many treatments will you need?
That depends upon the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint.  You may need only a single treatment for an
acute condition.  A series of five to twelve treatments may resolve many chronic problems. Some degenerative conditions
may require many treatments over time.

How painful is it?
The needles are generally painless and most people only feel a tapping sensation.

Are the needles clean?
Only sterile disposable needles are used. This eliminates the possibility of transmitting a communicable disease by a
contaminated needle.

What if I fear needles?
If you fear needles, perhaps Acupressure, Electro-acupuncture, Tui Na massage, cupping, magnets, or
herbs would work better for you.

Why do they want to look at my tongue?
The tongue is a map of your body, reflecting the general health or your organ and meridian systems.
Your acupuncturist will look at the color, shape, and coating of your tongue.

Why do they want to feel my pulses?
There are 12 main positions on your wrists that your acupuncturist will feel. Each position corresponds to an organ and
meridian system. Your acupuncturist will be looking for 28 pulse qualities that relfect the balance of Qi and your general
sate of health. If there are any imbalances they will appear in your pulse.

How should I prepare for an appointment?
•
Come to the clinic with any questions you may have, your acupuncturist is there to help you.
•        Wear loose and comfortable clothing for easy access to acupuncture points.
•        Don't eat large meals just before or after your acupuncturist visit.
•        Refrain from overexertion, drugs, or alcohol for up to 6 hours after your acupuncturist  visit.
•        After your acupuncture treatment, avoid stressful situations. Make time to relax. A warm bath or shower
is helpful. Also, be sure to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water.

How long will be my  session?
Please plan for 1/2  to 1 1/2 hours for the initial acupuncturist visit and 20 minutes to 1 hour for each such visit
thereafter.

What should I do before and after the acupuncture session?
For best results, avoid coffee, soda or sweets before acupuncture visit, finish meals half an hour before acupuncture
session and wear loose clothes. After acupuncture, avoid aggressive physical activity, drink 2-3 cups warm water, have
Epsom salt foot bath and take light meal like soup or cooked food.
